Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
Why, yes, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter did come out in theaters on January 27th, and if you haven’t see it yet, wow, are you in for an epic battle. Five years ago Resident Evil: Retribution rushed in kicking and screaming, and only now is Milla Jovovich returning to finish the chapters with this sixth installment. It’ll pick up right where Retribution left off, neatly weaving together the conclusion we’ve long been waiting for.
Power Rangers
We make no apologizes for this…Go Go Power Rangers! Oh yes, finally! Once again, the red, yellow, pink, blue, black rangers are coming back onscreen to fulfill all our 90s dreams cause it’s morphin’ time. This explosive cast take on a powerful witch h*ll bent on world domination, or whatever evil villains want. You know where to find us on March 24.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
After the galloping success of the first film (a whole $775 million mind you), Marvel would be foolish not to release a sequel. And everyone knows that Marvel are anything but foolish, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5th featuring our favorite “ragtag” team of intergalactic do gooders.
Ghost in the Shell
March 31st brings Rupert Sanders’ adaptation of the vastly popular Masamune Shirow manga series. We should add that Sanders received terribly harsh criticism for the casting of Scarlett Johansson as the main heroine, the Mayor. Although it is important to add that Johansson is an extremely talented actress who people always want to see on screen, additionally, Sanders and Johansson were honored with an in-person blessing from the original creators of the story.
Blade Runner 2049
Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling team up to deliver the incredible sequel to Blade Runner, with Ford obviously reprising his role as the one and only, Rick Deckard. Blade Runner 2049 is out in theaters on October 6, picking up 30 years after the first film, the audience better be ready to embark on a rather unpredictable, breathtaking quest.
John Wick: Chapter 2
John Wick: Chapter 2, starring Keanu Reeves, Common, Laurence Fishburne, and Ruby Rose, just came out in theaters on February 10 and already people are buzzing. As the sequel to the 2014 hit, fans get to watch as everyone’s favorite kick a** hitman comes out of retirement to take on the world’s worst assassins. Chapter 2 has more action, more gore, more darkness, and more of Keanu Reeves (duh!).
Justice League
November 17 brings to the screen some of the most powerful and premier superheroes the world has ever seen, starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller, we’re all just itching to see what comes next. Justice League kicks off a couple months after Batman v Superman, inspired by Superman’s sacrifice for humanity, Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince pull together a team of metahumans to battle a new, dangerous threat on our Earth.
Kong: Skull Island
Not another King Kong movie? Yes, yes it is. But here’s why you should be excited, it’s not just the fact this film stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and Brie Larson, which in its own right is incredibly awesome. It’s also the fact that producers changed the dynamic of your typical Kong film by expanding the background story of the characters to make them more human, more emotional, more relatable. And yes, the graphics are out of this world because technology has come a long way. ‘Skull Island’ is out in theaters on March 8.
The Dark Tower
The Stephen King novel is brought to life come July 28. Although it is important to note that The Dark Tower film is taking a new approach to the King series, instead of being a carbon copy. With the casting of Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, it’s safe to say that this is nothing short of electrifying.
Wonder Woman
This superhero film is as old as time but features a new twist on the age old classic. After an American pilot, Steve Trevor, crashes on the island of Themyscira, he explains to Diana Prince that there is world war raging, Diana then leaves her home to try to stop the war and ultimately becomes Wonder Woman. Get to theaters on June 2 to watch Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, and Robin Wright electrify the screen and the role of Wonder Woman.
Logan
We all knew that the day would come when Hugh Jackman would no longer portray his loyal, fierce, sexy X-Men character, Wolverine. We just never said we’d be ready for that day to come, but alas, it’s here, after 18 long years, Jackman is gritting his retractable bone claws one last time. I’d get to the theater quite early on March 3, before all the good seats are taken.
Beauty And The Beast
My head is still spinning that on March 17 in theaters everywhere, this magical Disney animated film hits screens as a live-action remake, starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Ian McKellen. I’m as giddy as a school girl and I feel no shame about that, at all.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
When you’ve got a spy action film that’s also a comedy, which stars the likes of Taron Egerton, Julianne Moore, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, and Elton John, you know you’ve got a hit on your hands. FYI, this is a sequel of the 2014 film Kingsman: The Secret Service. See you in theaters October 6!
Spider Man: Homecoming
If you plan on watching Spider Man: Homecoming, you need to do one thing first, watch Captain America: Civil War. ‘Homecoming’ takes us through Peter Parker’s journey of balancing his high school life along with his crime fighting duties, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, Spidey must destroy the new threat plaguing his city. This thriller is scheduled for release on July 7.
Alien: Covenant
Ridley Scott and writer John Logan are finally giving us the answers we’ve long been waiting for. Alien: Covenant will pick where the 2012 film Prometheus and the second installment in the Alien prequel series left off. May 19 takes us on a wild ride as we watch the colony ship crew discover a land far more dangerous then they ever imagined. Especially when they stumble upon the “synthetic” David, a survivor from the ‘Prometheus’ expedition.
Cars 3
Lighting McQueen is back! Cars 3 follows Lightning McQueen’s journey and battle against a brand new generation of trendy racing cars. After he’s booted out of racing following a devastating crash, McQueen must fight to get back on track (pun intended). Together with the help from race tech Cruz Ramirez, he trains tirelessly to get himself back in the game and against his new rival, Jackson Storm. Scheduled for release starting June 16.
Dunkirk
July 27 brings us the remarkable British-French-American action thriller of Dunkirk, which follows the vicious Dunkirk evacuation during World War Two. If you’re a history buff then this is the perfect movie for you and if you’re not a history buff well, the film does star Tom Hardy and former ‘One Directioner’ Harry Styles. Something for everyone!
The Fate Of The Furious
This ride or die family is about to get tested in a way like never before. The Fate of the Furious is also the first film since Tokyo Drift not starring the wonderful Paul Walker, who tragically died in a single-vehicle crash in 2013. Scheduled for release on April 14, buckle up for the ride of your life as the Toretto family is ripped apart at the seams by one of their own in what’s promised to be the darkest installment in the franchise.
The Mummy
While Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are at the core of The Mummy franchise, the new action-adventure horror film starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, and Russell Crowe, promises to be just as thrilling. The skeptic in me isn’t so sure but I’ll just have to wait like everyone else for June 9th to see where this film falls on the awesome-meter.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that most hardcore fans are eagerly (desperately is more like it) waiting for the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, scheduled for release on December 15. There are many questions still left to answer, although watching Carrie Fisher one last time (following her tragic death on 27 December, 2016) is a bittersweet feeling.
Thor: Ragnarok
When you’ve got Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, and Anthony Hopkins, all wrapped up in an epic thriller, then you’ve got one spine-tingling film already. November 3 brings us all our favorite characters from the Thor story line, along with some new additions, for an epic gladiator battle, a chilling villain and the ultimate betrayal.
Transformers: The Last Knight
It’s here. The fifth and final Transformers film. This is said to be the final film directed by Michael Bay and is currently scheduled for release on June 23. Watch the hair-raising conclusion as Optimus Prime returns to Earth after leaving to search for the Creators and when two worlds collide, well, only one can survive.
Life
This science fiction thriller could easily be taking place right now, here’s why. Life presents a six-member crew of the International Space Station, studying a sample from Mars thought to be first proof of extraterrestrial life (how long has America NASA’s program been searching for life on Mars?), however the sample is far more intelligent than anyone anticipated. Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds take us for a roller coaster ride on March 24, and we can’t wait.
XXX: Return of Xander Cage
Granted XXX: Return of Xander Cage came out in January but if you have yet to see it, man are you missing out. The third installment in the xXx franchise delivers everything fans are hungry for, action, seduction, kick a** fight scenes, and of course, humor. The cast also doesn’t disappoint, Vin Diesel, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Kris Wu, Ruby Rose, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev, Toni Collette and Samuel L. Jackson.
Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets
While the title might sound funny, this French sci-fi film is said to be chillingly mind-blowing. Based on the French comic series ‘Valérian and Laureline,’ it stars Dane DeHaan and supermodel Cara Delevingne. We’ll be there for its release on July 21st, as should you.
The Great Wall
Zhang Yimou’s historical fantasy, The Great Wall, hits theaters February 17 and it’s definitely one you don’t want to miss. While producers did receive outcries of rage over the casting of Matt Damon as the lead in what should have starred an entirely eastern plot, we’re pretty sure it won’t stop people from flocking in to watch a zombie apocalypse. Nope, not a typo, you read that right. This is the story of the Great Wall of China being built in order to stop unwanted neighbors (i.e. zombies) from entering.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
It’s finally here. After years of back and forth with script and budget problems, the fifth installment is flooding theaters on May 26. We get to see the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow pursued by an old rival, and the long awaited return of Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner under his new guise as Davy Jones.
War for the Planet of the Apes
Director Matt Reeves is back and is picking up right where Dawn of the Planet of the Apes left off. Reeves takes it a step further by stating that fans better get ready for the chilling battle that takes place in this sequel. Andy Serkis returns as the apes’ leader, Caesar, and is joined by Steve Zahn (a new ape) and Woody Harrelson (known as the Colonel). On top of that, Reeves co-wrote the script and is keeping storyline under wraps. July 14 is the official release date and we’re barely keeping it together.
Despicable Me 3
June 30th brings the third installment of the Despicable Me film series and we can barely contain our excitement! The third films follows the hilarious Gru, who is currently battling against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who is obsessed with the character he played back in the ’80s. AND Gru will be in the midst of some heated sibling rivalry when meeting his long lost twin brother, Dru.
The Lego Batman Movie
A lego movie is now the norm but when the first The Lego Movie materialized, everyone was scratching their heads in disbelief, huffing and puffing at the stupidity of such a concept. But when the film racked in some $470 million, no one was laughing but rather praising the new big idea cause “Everything is Awesome!”. Warner Bros. created their own spin-off featuring Mariah Carey, Zach Galifianakis, Will Arnett, and Michael Cera to name a few. It came out in theaters in America on February 10th and has already scooped up $90 million worldwide, not bad for some plastic blocks, eh?
The Circle
Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. Need we go on? Yes? Okay fine. The Cirlce is an eerie thriller centered around a powerful Internet corporation and the future of humanity. It’s based on Dave Eggers’ 2013 novel of the same name and will come out on April 28.
Saw: Legacy
Composer Charlie Clouser this eighth installment of the Saw franchise will be a “reinvention” of the series, if you don’t like scary movies then all we can say, stay away! Clouser also said that co-directors Michael and Peter Spierig will bring “a fresh take on the material that will establish a new storyline and new characters that can carry the saga into the future.” The release date stands at October 27, Halloween time. Great.
Murder on the Orient Express
The screenplay is in fact based on the 1934 novel of the same name written by the incredibly talented mystery novelist, Agatha Christie. Kenneth Branagh (also stars in the film) is the director of this wonderful star studded film, and when we say star studded, we aren’t kidding. Check it – Tom Bateman, Lucy Boynton, Olivia Colman, Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Derek Jacobi, Marwan Kenzari, Leslie Odom Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, Sergei Polunin, and Daisy Ridley.
Fifty Shades Darker
Maybe some of you already saw this erotic, romantic, drama when it came out in theaters on February 10th and if you haven’t yet, then you’re in for a treat. As you should know, this is the second film in the Fifty Shades. It does star the original protagonists, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, who seem to pick up right where they left off, considering there’s some dark, evil events creeping up apart from Christian’s past.
Baywatch
Why this, this 2017 flick is based on the ever popular television series which starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, who are making a cameo in the film! Watch as the veteran lifeguard (Dwayne Johnson) goes head-to-head with a rather reckless recruit (Zac Efron), who was once an Olympian mind you. They find that they have to join forces in order to stop a criminal plot that’s threatening their beach. The release date is May 26.
The Commuter
The one and only Liam Neelson is back at it with this action-thriller film. It’ll have as much suspense and mystery as his hit film Taken, and some kick a** fight scenes to boot. It comes out in theaters on October 13.
Wonder
This adorable, heartwarming film is based on the 2012 novel by R.J. Palacio. It stars Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as the parents of a young boy struggling to overcome a facial deformity, amid a world not ready to accept him. It hits theaters everywhere April 7.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
While you probably know the story of King Arthur, it has been a while since its been adapted for this century. And hello, the cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law, and Eric Bana. Needless to say, we can basically assume theaters will be packed on May 12.
Pitch Perfect 3
The Pitches are baaaaaaaack. Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Britanny Snow, and new member Ruby Rose will give it their all in this third installment. Currently the film is in production so we literally know nothing apart from it’s out in theaters December 22.
American Made
This chilling biographical drama-thriller star the talented and charming Tom Cruise. Based on the life of Barry Seal, a former TWA pilot turned drug smuggler in the 1980s who is later recruited by the DEA to provide intelligence. You know where to find me on September 29.
The Snowman
This British crime drama comes out in theaters on October 13 and is based on the novel by Jo Nesbø. The plot sounds a tad weird but totally creepy, Detective Harry Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman, his only clue is pink scarf found wrapped around a sinister looking snowman.
T2 Trainspotting
Danny Boyle knocks it out of the park, again. And yes before you ask, this is the sequel to his incredible 1996 film, Trainspotting, ‘T2’ will feature all of the original ensemble cast, including Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, and Kelly Macdonald. It’s said to hit theaters around February, March time.
Baby Driver
While the name sounds ridiculous, nothing else is. This British-American was written and directed by the very talented Edgar Wright, and stars Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey, and Eiza González. The premise follows a talented, young getaway driver who falls in love and wants out, but he encounters some challenges. The initial release date is March 15.
Jumanji
The original Jumanji film probably holds a special place in everyone’s heart but don’t fret. The 2017 film will be more of a spiritual sequel and continuation of the 1995 film, and will pay a tribute to the late Robin Williams. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas is not too shabby either. It’s scheduled for release on December 22 in 2D, RealD 3D, IMAX 3D.
Get Out
This horror film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and is out in theaters on February 24th. The film is centered around a young biracial college couple who are at the point in their relationship where they meet each other’s parents, however the GF hasn’t told her parents that her BF is black. Stay with me here! While visiting the girlfriend’s trendy, suburban neighborhood, the boyfriend realizes the area has a dark history of making young black men disappear. Gotcha, eh? It’s one you really don’t want to miss.
Rings
Rings is the third film of The Ring franchise, and I’m already freaked out. The third film picks up 13 years after the first film. It came out in theaters on February 3 and has grossed $66 million worldwide. Not too bad!
IT
Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel “It,” is back. While a few people out there are skeptical that it’ll live up to its former adaptations, we think that Bill Skarsgård and Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things make a good fit. See you in theaters September 8, if you dare.
Fist Fight
Yes, Fist Fight has already come out in theaters and if you haven’t already seen it, then get ready to LOL-SOB. The film stars Ice Cube, Charlie Day, Christina Hendricks, Jillian Bell and Tracy Morgan. Get ready to laugh hysterically as two ordinary teachers plan to fight each other after one of them gets fired.
Coco
This adorable comedy-fantasy film shows us the story of Miguel, a 12-year-old boy, who has set off an incredible chain of events related to a century-old mystery. It is out in theaters on November 22.
Snatched
The ever hysterical Amy Schumer is joined by Goldie Hawn in this mother-daughter duo comedy. Come May 12th, follow along as these two lovely ladies embark on a planned vacation which then, goes off the rails. We should mention that this is Goldie’s first role since 2002!
The Boss Baby
The Boss Baby is a hilarious computer-animated film, which is loosely based on the 2010 picture book of the same name written and illustrated by Marla Frazee. It hit theaters on March 31, 2017 and has grossed $114 million so far. The hilarious plot follows a baby who is a secret agent caught up in the secret war between babies and puppies. Sounds crazy but it also stars the voices of Alec Baldwin, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow and Tobey Maguire.
CHiPs
This hilarious action film was written and directed by Dax Shepard, who also stars in the film, alongside Michael Peña, Rosa Salazar, Adam Brody and Vincent D’Onofrio. The 2017 film is based on the 1977-1983 television series of the same name. It came out in theaters on March 24 so if you’re looking to laugh, we recommend going now!
The Zookeeper’s Wife
The war drama film is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Diane Ackerman, which recounts the rescue of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto. Starring Jessica Chastain, Johan Heldenbergh, Michael McElhatton and Daniel Brühl, the film premiered in the United States on March 31.
Smurfs: The Lost Village
The animated flick stars the voices of Demi Lovato, Mandy Patinkin, Joe Manganiello, Jack McBrayer,, Danny Pudi, and Rainn Wilson. On April 7, watch the story of what happens when a mysterious map prompts Smurfette, Brainy, Clumsy, and Hefty to locate a lost village, inhabited by SmurfStorm.
Before I Fall
Based on the 2010 novel of same name, written by Lauren Oliver, starring Zoey Deutch, Halston Sage, Logan Miller, Kian Lawley, Jennifer Beals, Diego Boneta and Elena Kampouris. The film was released in theaters on March 3 and it follows Samantha Kingston as she lives the same day over and over until she can find out who kills her and break the loop.
Everybody Loves Somebody
Watch the hilarious story of a successful and single career woman who asks her co-worker to pose as her boyfriend during a family wedding back home in Mexico. However things go a bit wonky when her ex shows up at the ceremony. Everybody Loves Somebody is the witty film starring Karla Souza, José María Yazpik, Ben O’Toole and it came out in theaters in February.
A Cure For Wellness
The psychological horror film was released in theaters on February 17 and has received some mixed reviews. It follows the story of a young American executive who gets sent to a mysterious rehabilitation center in the Swiss Alps.
Amityville: The Awakening
On June 30, you can watch the supernatural horror film centered around a family who just moved into the infamous Amityville house. As it stars Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Thomas Mann, Jennifer Morrison and Kurtwood Smith, we’re optimistic.
Insidious: Chapter 4
Yup, the fourth installment in the Insidious franchise is scheduled for release on October 20, 2017. Much of the storyline has been kept under wraps but we know it stars Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell, and Casey Lee Harris.
The Emoji Movie
It was only a matter of time until someone created an emoji movie. Set for release on August 4, the film stars the voices of T.J. Miller, Ilana Glazer, James Corden, Patrick Stewart, Steven Wright, and Rob Riggle. Watch as Gene, a multi-expressional emoji sets out on a journey to become just a normal emoji.
Annabelle: Creation
And the horror flicks just keep comin’. August 11 brings us the prequel to 2014’s Annabelle and the fourth film in The Conjuring franchise. So yeah, we can assume it’ll be terrifying.
The Space Between Us
On February 3, this romantic science fiction film was released and so far has received mixed reviews. Starring Gary Oldman, Asa Butterfield, Britt Robertson, and Carla Gugino, – the film follows a teenage boy, who was born on Mars, who travels to Earth.
A Dog’s Purpose
We dare you not to cry while watching this movie! Yes, it is based on the 2010 novel of the same name and it stars Britt Robertson, KJ Apa, Juliet Rylance, John Ortiz, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Peggy Lipton, Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad. A Dog’s Purpose was released on January 27, and has grossed $180 million worldwide.
Geostorm
October 20 brings us the story of a satellite designer trying to save the world from a storm of insane proportions caused by climate-controlling satellites. The cast includes Gerard Butler, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Lara, Jim Sturgess, Amr Waked, Ed Harris and Andy García.
Going in Style
April 7 brings us the remake of the original 1979 film of the same name, starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Joey King, Matt Dillon and Ann-Margret. The film follows a trio of retirees who have made a plan to rob a bank after their pensions are all cancelled. It’s bound to make you laugh!
