The “H” word. We all strive for it, but it seems to be one of the most difficult and elusive things to achieve. That’s right, we’re talking about health. Most people’s New Year’s resolutions include something about trying to “get healthier.” The problem with that is that it is just so broad — what is “healthier,” anyway? — that it becomes a behemoth task and feels extremely intimidating and out of reach.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. If you break down health into smaller, more achievable goals, you’ll find these small changes and substitutions much easier to incorporate into your life as opposed to trying a complete lifestyle overhaul.
Try incorporating one or more of these into your life, and we promise you’ll feel better in no time.
Make It An H2O, Please
Honestly, drinking more water is probably one of the easiest ways to feel better and keeping healthy. Hydration is one of the most important ways to stay healthy and just have a properly functioning body. This includes helping aid in proper digestion and absorbing essential nutrients. So next time, skip the soda and make it a water!
Stand (Or Sit) Tall
Don’t underestimate the importance of your posture, whether you’re seated or standing up. Even if you can’t find time to work out, proper posture will actually activate the muscles in your shoulders, back, arms, and even your core. Making sure your posture is optimal has other benefits that include better digestion and injury prevention. Do it now!
Take A Walk
We all want to improve our overall fitness, but sometimes we just don’t feel like getting in an intensive workout. Don’t worry, it’s okay, taking a walk is just as effective! It will improve your mood, increase your heart rate, and strengthen your muscles. So remember, even if you can’t fit a workout in, take a walk.
Have Some Green Tea
Green tea has proven time and time again to have many healthful benefits. It is a great way to incorporate antioxidants such as EGCG into your diet, helps kill bacteria, and also helps boost brain function. Start by replacing one of your cups of coffee with green tea instead. We promise you will not be sorry about it!
Call It A Night 30 Minutes Earlier
The optimal amount of sleep is between 8-9 hours a night. That may seem like an impossible feat to accomplish, and we get it. One way to sneak in some extra sleep is by cutting out a mindless activity (hello, endless Instagram scrolling) and trying to get to bed just 30 minutes earlier than usual. Trust us, if you manage to do this every night this week, that’s an extra 3.5 hours of sleep in just 7 days!
Cook With Seasonal Ingredients
This one may seem confusing. What do season ingredients have to do with your health? Well, it’s all about where your produce is coming from. Seasonal ingredients are more likely to have been grown naturally and even locally, reducing your intake of non-organic foods and injecting more nutrients into your diet instantly. Look up a seasonal food guide to make sure you’re buying what’s in season!
