His First Career Path
Harmon graduated cum laude from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1974 with a degree in Communications. He began pursuing a career in advertising and even considered pursuing law. He worked as a merchandising director, but found that his interests drew him into acting instead. He pursued his passion and soon landed appearances in commercials, even starring in a Kellogg’s ad with his father.
His Mother Elyse
Speaking of the spotlight, Mark Harmon’s mother was the stunning actress, model, and fashion designer Elyse Knox. Knox appeared in her first leading role in the film The Mummy’s Tomb in 1942. Knox appeared on Bing Crosby’s radio show, where she met Tom Hardy. The two married in 1944, and her silk wedding dress was made of Tom’s parachute he used in WWII.
